Though character design is better and more interesting in Tokyo Ghoul. Tokyou Ghoul isn't subpar in this aspect, itвЂ™s just fine: it does have some notable moments, but not as remarkable as ZnT. The conjuntion of those elements gave me the most memorable moments of this season too.

Seriously, ZnT OST is crazy good and, in fact, my favorite of this season. I admit that all of the points above are debatable at any degree, but there is two things that ZnT is definitely superior: art and sound. They are more subtle and the show isnвЂ™t interested in force them through evident remarks (nor Tokyo Ghoul), but I felt that they were always relevant to the plot and to what is currently happening. In ZnT you can also appreciate some interesting subjects but arenвЂ™t as evident as in Tokyo Ghoul. The thing is that the show only focus on these problems in two or three episodes. In Tokyo Ghoul you have the internal struggle of a boy that is ghoul and human but at the same time neither of those, the political and social backstory in this war between both factions and if ghouls should be considered equals as humans. The two has some very interesting thematics: Tokyo Ghoul has some frankly ridiculous moments that are just there for comic relief and doesn't feel appropriate. ZnT defies your suspension of disbelief by introducing elements that arenвЂ™t consistent with what you have been watching. One and the other have вЂњsillyвЂќ moments, but of different type. Now:Д«oth shows start strong, then decline and eventually end pretty good, but whereas all of what happens in ZnK feels relevant (even if you donвЂ™t like it) Tokyo Ghoul has at least one arc that takes too long and is kind of boring.

The following is just my opinion, so at the end I think the best option you got is watch the first episode of both series and decide.
